Hard to Believe, Magician Paul Lee Condolences
Paul R. Lee, Jr. was a professional magician and a good fried.
When I first met Paul, he was at a magic flea market, and his pep and flare for magic was evident. Paul loved magic and he always needed to show it to the world. His tool of choice was the “Water in the News” magic trick. I remember seeing Marshall Brodein do this on the Bozo show back when I was a kid. Paul had a flare for this stunt and performed it better then anyone else I have seen perform it. Paul swore by this and said in a big illusionists show it was more powerful then any levitation. I question this, but for Paul, this was his Holy Grail.
Paul was my first contact to a real illusionist. You see I am a mind reader a mentalist, and I never liked the big box jumping acts. Paul had a flare for creating an amazing one man show. He showed me that the illusions I had disliked so much growing up, could touch the audience and bring back that feeling of childish joy into the hearts of even the most staunch skeptic.
A gift for gab was Paul Lee best asset. He would talk about his good ole days in the Wisconsin Dells area where he was one of the first head lining magicians in the Dells, predating Rick Wilcox by at least a decade. He helped me understand black art concepts, levitations, and how a simple dog could be the true headliner of a show. I can recite a few 100 of Paul Lees stories I have heard them so much.
From festivals, nursing homes, amusement parks, TV, and charity events Paul dazzled crowds not only in Chicago but also the world. He even had a flare for the upside down straight jacket escape which he helped me better understand.
Mr. Lee was destined to either own a Chinese buffet, become a professional magician, or own a car repair shop. From his neighbors to fellow magician Steve Chezaday from Naperville We were all privileged to benefit from his car repair skills. I can not even remember how many times we would talk about building magic props while we were removing my headers in my Cadillac. Now, I have become quite the magic prop builder and hobbyist auto repair mechanic.
I was honored to be influential in his redesign of his website. I taught him how to tweak his site so google would find it. Paul and I shared allot of business knowledge and that is what I cherish the most.
According to his official obituary, Paul has entered eternal life on October 7, 2014 surrounded by his 6 brothers; Mark (Kim), Keith (Christine), Stephen, Brian (Charlene), Craig and David (Tommie). Paul is also survived by 20 nieces and nephews and 9 grand nieces and nephews.
Paul died after a grueling battle with lung cancer. I wish I would have gotten to say bye. Paul and I had fallen out over something stupid. I accepted all the guilt for it. But anyone who knew Paul especially his bff steve, knew he loved to fight and hold grudges. So…
I managed to message Paul before his death and I told him I missed his friendship and I thought of him as a great teacher and performer. I think that this message was more for me then for him. I needed my friend to know I would be carrying on his legacy. So now I will perform his magic effect in my upcoming Casino show in Michigan on Friday of next week.
For a man who has impacted soooo many lives, I could not allow the small obituary to be his remembrance. This is why I write this… To honor a GREAT man and a Pro… Paul Lee, you will be missed! And do not worry I will continue to harass Steve and Carol for you.

Study into life after death experiences sort of proves that life continues…
First evidence of life after death from a new medical study has found evidence that consciousness may continue after death.
Scientists at the University of Southampton studied 2,000 plus cases from hospitals in the US, UK and Austria of people who suffered heart attacks, died, and then were brought back to life.
In approximately 40 percent patients recalled maintaining some level of awareness during the period of time in which they would have been clinically dead.
In one case, a 50 something man vividly recalled floating up above his body for three minutes while observing medical staff attempting to save him. He was later able to recall explicit details about what they had been doing and about the sounds that he had heard around him.
“We know the brain can’t function when the heart has stopped beating,” said study leader Dr Sam Parnia. “But in this case, conscious awareness appears to have continued for up to three minutes into the period when the heart wasn’t beating, even though the brain typically shuts down within 20-30 seconds after the heart has stopped. ”
A significant number of patients also reported the typical ‘tunnel of light’ vision described during near-death experiences as well as a sense of overwhelming peacefulness.
Scientists believe that most of us forget our experiences or attribute them to the drugs that are used resuscitate us as well as those used at the point of death.
