Hard to Believe, Magician Paul Lee Condolences

Paul R. Lee, Jr. was a professional magician and a good fried.

When I first met Paul, he was at a magic flea market, and his pep and flare for magic was evident. Paul loved magic and he always needed to show it to the world. His tool of choice was the “Water in the News” magic trick. I remember seeing Marshall Brodein do this on the Bozo show back when I was a kid. Paul had a flare for this stunt and performed it better then anyone else I have seen perform it. Paul swore by this and said in a big illusionists show it was more powerful then any levitation. I question this, but for Paul, this was his Holy Grail.

Paul was my first contact to a real illusionist. You see I am a mind reader a mentalist, and I never liked the big box jumping acts. Paul had a flare for creating an amazing one man show. He showed me that the illusions I had disliked so much growing up, could touch the audience and bring back that feeling of childish joy into the hearts of even the most staunch skeptic.

A gift for gab was Paul Lee best asset. He would talk about his good ole days in the Wisconsin Dells area where he was one of the first head lining magicians in the Dells, predating Rick Wilcox by at least a decade. He helped me understand black art concepts, levitations, and how a simple dog could be the true headliner of a show. I can recite a few 100 of Paul Lees stories I have heard them so much.

From festivals, nursing homes, amusement parks, TV, and charity events Paul dazzled crowds not only in Chicago but also the world. He even had a flare for the upside down straight jacket escape which he helped me better understand.

Mr. Lee was destined to either own a Chinese buffet, become a professional magician, or own a car repair shop. From his neighbors to fellow magician Steve Chezaday from Naperville We were all privileged to benefit from his car repair skills. I can not even remember how many times we would talk about building magic props while we were removing my headers in my Cadillac. Now, I have become quite the magic prop builder and hobbyist auto repair mechanic.

I was honored to be influential in his redesign of his website. I taught him how to tweak his site so google would find it. Paul and I shared allot of business knowledge and that is what I cherish the most.

According to his official obituary, Paul has entered eternal life on October 7, 2014 surrounded by his 6 brothers; Mark (Kim), Keith (Christine), Stephen, Brian (Charlene), Craig and David (Tommie). Paul is also survived by 20 nieces and nephews and 9 grand nieces and nephews.

Paul died after a grueling battle with lung cancer. I wish I would have gotten to say bye. Paul and I had fallen out over something stupid. I accepted all the guilt for it. But anyone who knew Paul especially his bff steve, knew he loved to fight and hold grudges. So…

I managed to message Paul before his death and I told him I missed his friendship and I thought of him as a great teacher and performer. I think that this message was more for me then for him. I needed my friend to know I would be carrying on his legacy. So now I will perform his magic effect in my upcoming Casino show in Michigan on Friday of next week.

For a man who has impacted soooo many lives, I could not allow the small obituary to be his remembrance. This is why I write this… To honor a GREAT man and a Pro… Paul Lee, you will be missed! And do not worry I will continue to harass Steve and Carol for you.

Scientists prove life after death, well sort of...

Study into life after death experiences sort of proves that life continues…

First evidence of life after death from a new medical study has found evidence that consciousness may continue after death.

Scientists at the University of Southampton studied 2,000 plus cases from hospitals in the US, UK and Austria of people who suffered heart attacks, died, and then were brought back to life.

In approximately 40 percent patients recalled maintaining some level of awareness during the period of time in which they would have been clinically dead.

In one case, a 50 something man vividly recalled floating up above his body for three minutes while observing medical staff attempting to save him. He was later able to recall explicit details about what they had been doing and about the sounds that he had heard around him.

“We know the brain can’t function when the heart has stopped beating,” said study leader Dr Sam Parnia. “But in this case, conscious awareness appears to have continued for up to three minutes into the period when the heart wasn’t beating, even though the brain typically shuts down within 20-30 seconds after the heart has stopped. ”

A significant number of patients also reported the typical ‘tunnel of light’ vision described during near-death experiences as well as a sense of overwhelming peacefulness.

Scientists believe that most of us forget our experiences or attribute them to the drugs that are used resuscitate us as well as those used at the point of death.

However this weekend was great I performed 4 shows in 3 states all starting at the lake view inn at the shoreline inn in Muskegon Michigan. My clients were fabulous! DTE lived the even and I truly got charged reading their minds and generally making their leadership group get more friendly and personal by providing award winning moments of real magic in their lives!

New LA Journal Report Honors Mentalist Scott Xavier is the Best Illusionist of 2014

Following a 75 plus contestant battle in Los Angeles, celebrity judges came to the conclusion that mentalist Scott Xavier and his X-Ray eyes routine was the LOS ANGELES BEST ILLUSIONIST. Scott started the contest with some close up fork and spoon bending that moved into a signed quarter bend.

The competition was really intense. Magicians from around the globe met and competed for this event. Over 75 contestants were in attendance. As one contestant stated: “Los angeles is the unofficial center for magicians. Los Angeles is known for it’s excellence in magic and magicians.”

1st place Award-Winner, Los Angeles Best Illusionist, Scott Xavier performed a visionless echo location martial arts routine. He duct taped his eyes shut, blindfolded himself with a sleeping mask and then proceeded to shoot balloons blindfolded with a paintball gun and sliced balloons out of audience members hands. It was truly an amazing performance!

Using Confusion for Good Business

As a mentalist, I have studied many powers of the mind. Some are so simple we often think they are not controllable. In my book Tricky Business, I describe many of the psychological stunts one can learn to manipulate for business success!

Effect- During the first World- War, there was a story of a messenger on the front lines. This man was to carry a message: “Send reinforcements, we’re going to advance…” Sounds straight forward enough, however by the time it reached the general it became: “Send three or four pence we are going to dance…”

Any message you communicate can get distorted and confused. But what is a good communication and how do you use it effectively?

As leaders in a goal to success, we need to be aware of how we transmit messages. Miscommunication happens because we inform our teams rather then communicate ideas with them.

Communicating an idea is the exchange of an idea that has the same meaning to those involved. By simply assuming your ideas are understood, you can fail in business.

If I asked you what is time, you may have an answer, which is completely different, then those around you. Time can be linear or a more general period of existence. The definitions are numerous.

If you are speaking of a specific genre or terminology, which a person is not familiar with, the idea also has the potential for becoming lost to the receiver. When transmitting a message try to get feedback to ensure that your message was transmitted properly.

Next time you type an email, take a step back and read it. Try to find the meaning that it will carry. See it from the outside it. Don’t just assume it will be understood. In this modern age of technology, message boards and emails are the number one avenue to get your business in trouble.

A friend of mine always states: “Write your email. Read it. Rewrite it, and then throw it away and rewrite it once again…” The key to success is being able to transmit ones ideas well and if you are stumbling for the right words, your competition might just get the edge over you.

When you telephone someone, ensure that you have written out your ideas thoroughly and know how to transmit them well. For cold calling have every avenue of conflict already mapped out and have a rebuttal for each. Never make it seem like an assault either. Just become a wise man with a solution for their problem!

New mentalism routine & blindfold practice!

Anyone who has seen my mentalism show, knows that I perform an echo location blindfold routine. I love it! The audience loves it! But I want the audience to be 100% positive I can not see. Here is a practice session with a new blindfold made of 3 layers of opaque material! The routine is going to be the most dangerous in mentalism. I will pop balloons with a knife using mma echo location and also shoot balloons with a paintball gun! Sounds fun doesn’t it!

Being an AGT mentalist, is it worth it?

Should I man up and become the next AGT mentalist!?…

For years I have been working as a corporate mentalist and with the great recession of 2010, my corporate work has been impacted severely! I have been finding other outlets such as colleges and even pub shows to get noticed. The hardest part of my job is getting clients to take a chance. Once they meet me and see what I can do, they jump on it though. That is when I started thinking about going on Americas Got Talent and try out as an AGT mentalist. The recent rash of decent performers makes me wonder if this market is good for magic and mentalists or if it hurts us. My two friend the Spellbinder and Dan Sperry both have said AGT is jaded against AGT mentalist and magicians because they can not sell these types of entertainments after the show airs. Musicians will need to use the as seen on AGT moniker to sell cd’s but magic does not.

But now as time is going by and I see my favorite DJ on there, Howard Stern, I realize I might get more exposure and though I probably wont win, all exposure is good exposure! I think I will start working on some effects for next season. What would you like to see an AGT mentalist perform?

Website Redesign & Updates...

There is something both magical and dreadful about wordpress and this week has brought about both! My website was looking OK, however it wasnt conveying my skills and persona, then luckily/unluckily for me the website crashed… Just KABOOM it was gone and in its place was gibberish coding. The shocking part was that I even installed a server backup and the gunk text was still there.

That is when I realized I needed to redesign the whole site from the ground up. I tried a few things and settled on the current incarnation! It is BEST viewed on a desktop so you get the video intro effect on the front page. It is really coming together. I have finished the V X.1 version of the site and would LOVE to hear from you as to how it is looking!

Corporate Events in Summertime decline...

So the decline of shows is sad. I work as a mentalist and magician at various corporate events through out the year. The problem is that 80% of my work comes in december and january when corporate events are at their highest.

Being summertime, no corporations have parties or even sales seminars because VP Joey and Treasurist Barry are taking their kids to Disney World for a fun vacation. This month I have decided to hit the road. I have 4 events the next 2 weeks and then I will be ready for some fun summertime events. Im thinking of trying my hand at street performing in Key West and then bouncing to New Orleans. It should be easy to get seen and make some pocket cash.

As many of you know I have been reading minds in bars for decades. So I am use to being on the road… If you are looking for some entertainment for your bar or corporate event call me. Prices drop in summer time.

Unethical Magic Practices... Steve Pellegrinos Open Billet Box

Today I was on my online publishers website and found that they are selling a penny bend similar to my own. In fact it uses the EXACT same method as mine. I will let you in on a little secret to make a penny bendable all you need to do is submerge it into a hot flame until it gets white hot and allow it to cool. If you use vermiculite to cool it slower, it becomes easier to bend. The process is called annealing.

My dear friend James Chenug taught me this method back in 2002 when we were working with David Blaine in Manhattan. James learned UK pennies can be annealed because of their high copper content. I found that pre 1982 pennies can be annealed because they are still copper. James and I were working on a huge publicity stunt where we could swap in annealed penny for change and cause a mass penny bending in the audience. It fell through due to logistics.

I decided to publish the method. It did quite well amongst magicians. Then an unethical bastard named Steve Pellegrino decided he would release the same method. He claimed to have different handling for the bend. Thats great Steve but revealing someones published method is unethical in magic communities. True annealing is an open method, however so is spoon bending using your hands. If I were to give away banacheks, chad sanborn, or Morgan Strebblers I would be as big of a thief as he is. Even if the handling was slightly different.

When ever possible I get credit for any moves I use. I used a version of acidus novus that Jay Marshall had taught me before he died. He said he learned it from the originator. As such when ever I reference that move I credit Jay for the knowledge.

If magic methods are freely given away, then I shall do the same.... You do not become rich off of magic secrets, so I will charge nothing for my Xaviers Box which uses a similar method as Steve Pellegrinos Open Billet Box. This Xavier Open Billet Box will be the first of every book that I rewrite of Steves until he pulls his penny bend from the market. This took me an hour to write and I included AMAZING routines and I even added a feature which makes it unique and my own production. So even though steve pellegrino is a scum bag, I will continue to change steves ideas 20% and add new routines to them for free to you my magician fans.

As many of you know I collect all manner of oddities. I have an original casting of a Bigfoot print from a 1964 sighting all the way to a Fiji mermaid. Now I add this little charmer to my collection.

This is an alien fetus that has toured across America in a sideshow. The original owner claimed that he had a military contract to provide laboratory film to Wright Patterson air force Base. While there a lieutenant begged for his help and gave a duffle bag to the base film vendor to hold onto. He said it’s nothing crazy just something for my wife. The film vendor was asked to meet the air force lieutenant at a local diner off base at eight pm and bring the bag with. The vendor didn’t think anything of it and left the bag in the truck as he made his rounds. Eight came quickly and the vendor headed to the diner.

I waited there over three hours and he never met me. I figured he got busy at work and must have been called upon to work on something air forcy and top secret. I knew he had high clearance and worked on air planes that flew by themselves. So I headed home

.

Upon heading home the vendor realized there were armed guards at his house and though it was some distance away, he observed his girl friend being hauled away by gun point. That’s when he passed the house and took a side road quickly making sure he wasn’t being followed.

He knew it had to do with the duffle bag. He pried it open to see what was inside…..

It looks like a 10 inch long creature in a jar of solution. It had to be an alien fetus. It seemed to be wiggling so I thought it had to be alive… I knew I was sitting on the worlds biggest secret and it frightened me. So I drove to a motel.

The man never returned home. Instead he was on the run. He has tried to have it analyzed several times but suspicious things keep happening. One lab in southern California caught fire nearly destroying the alien creature.

The former base vendor was accused of being a sexual predator in the media. They had to have doctored up these charges. He needed money so he sold the now dead creature to an old Christian preacher who took it on the road. He called it the Nephalem the child of angels and men. The scourge that had to be erased from the earth by Noah’s great flood…

I now possess it and I present to you… A modern marvel of science and history! It excites and sort of scares me to be honest.

Not everything is as it seems….   News casters ate too blame of the recent soccer foot ball ghost scare. You see a Spanish news agency picked up an article about a ghost in the news clip above. Unfortunately what they didn’t tell you is outs security footage of a man running through the arena which is why security is following the man. The blur is standard motion blur of a fast moving object out off focus. Hint number one is that the ledge the man is running on is obviously an out of place larger platform, which a man would run on not the standard seating were familiar with…   Anyways case closed…

My Mother Recalls Being Abducted by Aliens!

Today I made sideshow gaff of an alien fetus. A gaff is a manmade prop used in a sideshow as “real and authentic”! Being a mentalist and sideshow aficionado I love dabbling in this type of stuff. I brought it by my mom today and she loved it…. But she started to remember things from her childhood. Things involving beings similar to this creature…

Mom: It is strange. I remember as a little girl waking up and seeing people like that. They cam several times. I tried speaking and shouting for my mom every time it happened but I couldnt speak. I just remember seeing them in our house and no being able to do anything about it. I dont remember much else about it. It is a blur…

This is odd because my mom was very poor in Eben Junction Michigan, and she never watched TV or movies because they had no money. My grandfather left them broke and with no income when he left them before my mom was born. The town had one TV and they didn’t watch scifi, so how my mom had an image of big eyed aliens is beyond explanation. Most people I would be skeptical of, however my mom, I tend to believe…

Loch Ness Monster FOUND in Apple Satellite Image

 Can this be the legendary Loch Ness Monster found in Apples newest satellite map image of the loch?

After an 18 month drought of sightings of the loch ness monster, this image is of what is being called by researchers a 50 foot infamous monster of Scotland’s Loch Ness.

Roughly 50 t0 100 feet in length floating under the surface of the North End of Loch Ness.

The pictures was taken on satellite imagery by Apple for its smartphone maps by the Nessie fan club. It shows a submerged anomaly that appears to be a large sturgeon fish or possibly a monster depending on if size estimate is accurate.

No one is sure what it is, but the mystery grows.
